Ms. Garwood is one of the Program’s three clinical coordinators.  Her primary responsibility is clinical year student activities including organizing Clinical Orientation Week, Call Back Days (students return to the classroom for additional instruction six times during the clinical year), and special testing exercises.

Ms. Garwood joined the faculty as the 2007-2008 Teaching Fellow after many years of participation with the Program in adjunct teaching assignments and as the rotation coordinator and clinical preceptor in the Emergency Department at Duke University Medical Center and Duke Urgent Care.  She was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation Award from the PA Program in 2006 for these efforts. Ms. Garwood’s responsibility in the pre-clinical year includes coordinating the Emergency Medicine unit within Clinical Medicine, guiding students through EKG Interpretation in the Diagnostic Methods course, and small group instruction for several courses including Anatomy, other Clinical Medicine units, and Physical Diagnosis.

Ms. Garwood has 18 years of clinical experience in emergency medicine and continues her involvement in patient care and precepting students at Duke Urgent Care. Her other interests include cardiology, end of life care, and women’s health.
